Mercy Vision Performs First Eye Operations

Over the past two weeks we have been extremely excited that the
first Mercy Vision Zithulele cataract eye surgeries have begun. After months of
planning, the first cataract surgeries were performed on the 20th
February 2013. What a joy it has been to see these people remove their bandages and
see clearly again, for many after what has been decades of poor sight or
blindness. The Mercy Vision team is hoping to perform approximately 50 surgeries
over this two week block, and plans to run further surgical blocks later in the
year. So far, all signs are that this first ever land-based programme for Mercy
Ships is being a wonderful success.
