The 1000 from a 1000 Challenge is the Jabulani Foundation's effort to attract more skilled professionals to Zithulele by providing them with comfortable and affordable housing.
You may be wondering why Jabulani needs to provide new accommodation?
Ironically, in our deeply rural village, the greatest impediment to further development at present is not a lack willing skilled staff, but a lack of suitable accommodation (that is with piped water, sanitation and electricity) for them to live in. Importantly, providing multi-bedroom homes is vital to enable the Hospital and NGO's to attract and retain staff long term, something we have discovered to be a key driver of significant community transformation.

Accommodation Update
We began the "1000 from a 1000" Challenge in November 2011 in an attempt to raise one million rand to build much needed accommodation for professional staff in Zithulele. Well, today we have raised over three million rand and built three phases of development:
- The first phase entailed converting a set of garages in the hospital accommodation complex into a three-bedroomed home in order to solve the immediate accommodation crisis at the start of 2012.
- The second phase saw a brand new three-bedroomed unit built on church land. Nicknamed "Axium House" it was completed in mid-2013.
- The third phase was by far the most ambitious: the "New Lundi" ("New Horizons") accommodation development has brought a whole new 'suburb' on adjacent Hospital land, with 6 beautiful new houses (with a total of 14 bedrooms), plus a storeroom, laundry, parking and facilities.
Yet even with all this having happened, the Hospital clinical team and NGO staff have grown so much that all of this new accommodation is already full and we are in danger of having to turn away willing professionals. And so, once again, we are fundraising to build further accommodation.
Donations don’t need to be restricted to R1000. You can donate more or less because any amount will help. As Jabulani is a registered NPO, all SA donations are tax deductible (tax certificates provided).
