volunteer opportunities with jabulani
We are looking for volunteers to take on and drive forward our projects as well as to help with the central functions of the Foundation. There is also scope for people to come with their own vision and work with us to support Zithulele Hospital and the communities around it. Volunteering is a great way to make a meaningful contribution to our community and experience life along the beautiful Wild Coast of the rural Eastern Cape.
The roles we offer are challenging and rewarding and require energetic, self-starting people to make the most of them. Whilst previous experience is not a prerequisite, you must be enthusiastic about community development. Good communication skills are essential, as you could be on the phone to a multi-national donor organisation one day and speaking to a local woman through a translator the next.
Because we are a small organization, we need people who can drive forward projects with minimal support. We do not have the capacity to hand-hold our volunteers, but we do offer great opportunities to work with a high level of autonomy and make a real difference. However, unlike many volunteer organizations we do not ask for you to pay for the experience. It takes a long time to settle into working with our rural community, so we prefer volunteers to stay with us for at least 2 months.
Are you, or is anyone you know up for the challenge? If you are interested in joining the team, please e-mail us at info@jabulanifoundation.org.
New volunteer accommodation
The Foundation proudly opened its volunteer accommodation in July 2009. Based opposite Zithulele hospital in the heart of the village, the accommodation has three bedrooms which can take a mixture of single volunteers and couples. There is a fully equipped communal dining area and a kitchen, toilet and shower.
Zithulele has a range of accommodation options. We also have a homestay for shorter term volunteers with a traditional Xhosa family, about 45min walk from Zithulele.
